How ViPlay Vectorizer Studio Works
Technical guide to output modes, supported raster formats, negative-space topology, gradient reconstruction, and honest vectorization trade-offs.
1. True Vector (Default)
Generates 100% authentic SVG paths, compound evenodd holes, open strokes, and gradients. Zero embedded raster <image> tags are permitted.
2. High-Fidelity Vector
Boosts CIELAB palette precision, preserves smaller features, and reconstructs smooth linear/radial SVG gradients while remaining 100% pure vector geometry.
3. Hybrid Fidelity
Explicit opt-in mode for complex photographs: embeds a PNG backdrop beneath vector geometry. The embedded raster backdrop is clearly disclosed and not vector-editable.
Supported Input Formats & Handling
- PNG (RGB / RGBA): Preserves alpha transparency, cleans antialiased edge fringes, and detects optional transparent outer padding.
- JPG / JPEG: Respects EXIF orientations 1–8 and applies edge-preserving bilateral filtering to suppress 8×8 compression blocks.
- WebP: Decodes static RGB/RGBA WebP via WebAssembly and explicitly detects animated WebP containers rather than silently discarding frames.
- BMP: Supports uncompressed 1, 4, 8, 16, 24, and 32-bit Windows/V4/V5 bitmaps with dimension safety checks.
- GIF (Static & Animated): Full GIF87a/89a disposal compositing; convert frame 1, pick any frame interactively, or export selected frames as a ZIP of validated SVGs.
Privacy, Security & Practical Limitations
Every stage — binary header inspection, pixel decoding, CIELAB segmentation, contour extraction, Philip Schneider cubic Bézier fitting, SVGO optimization, and quality evaluation — runs locally inside an isolated browser Web Worker. Your images never leave your device.
Known Limitations: Continuous-tone photographs with skin, hair, or foliage textures require artistic posterization in True Vector mode (increasing SVG path counts) or explicit Hybrid Fidelity mode. Very low-resolution icons (< 64 px) are traced conservatively without fabricating unverified details.
